Vizio Windows 8 Tablet Price and Release Date

The Vizio Tablet price is $599.99.  As far as we know, this price doesn’t included a case, keyboard, or other accessory.  Without any special features or included accessories, $600 for this tablet seems a bit steep.  The Vizio Tablet’s release date was on June 20th, 2013.  As of this writing, it is only available for sale at Vizio’s website.

Vizio Windows 8 Tablet Pros and Cons

Below I review the pros and cons, advantages and drawbacks of the Vizio Windows 8 Tablet.

Vizio Windows 8 Tablet Pros

  • AMD Radeon graphics:  The Vizio tablet promises to deliver superior HD graphics via its AMD Radeon graphics chip.  Let’s hope it delivers.  Also, the tablet’s 1920 x 1080 resolution is huge for this price range.
  • SRS Speakers: Included with the Vizio Tablet are surround sound speakers.  Coupled with the Radeon graphics, the Vizio tablet seems geared for people interested in a multimedia device.
  • Thin and light: The Vizio tablet seems to cram a lot of decent specs into a small package.
  • Ability to run Desktop apps:  Windows 8 compatibility allows the Vizio tablet to run applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, iTunes, etc.  This offers a big advantage over Windows RT tablets, iPads, and Android tablets.

Vizio Windows 8 Tablet Cons

  • Short battery life: Rated at only 5 hours, the Vizio tablet real world battery life will be abysmal for a tablet
  • No keyboard accessory: To get the most out of Windows, you still need a keyboard.  This is especially true if you plan to use legacy Windows 7 and Windows XP applications.  Vizio really needs to develop a keyboard case for this device.
  • Doesn’t stand out from the crowd: There are so many Windows 8 tablets in this price range that have more compelling features and accessories.  Perhaps the high resolution display and Radeon graphics will save this device but I doubt it.

Final Thoughts and Buying Advice

The Vizio Windows 8 Tablet has some good features.  Its thin and light build, Radeon graphics, and SRS speakers all looks appealing.  However, its 1 GHz processor, 5 hour rated battery, and lack of keyboard option makes the Vizio Tablet a less than compelling device.  Add to this the fact that second generation Windows 8 Tablets are on the horizon, promising a better combination of performance, battery life, and price, it’s hard to recommend the Vizio at this point.  I’ll revise this section as reviews are released for the tablet.  For now, I recommend you consider other options… or wait.
