On the heels of the recent $150 price decrease of the Microsoft Surface RT, Microsoft has just announced a temporary price break on Microsoft Surface Pro. During the month of August 2013, the Microsoft Surface Pro price for the 64GB model will be $799. The 128GB model will sell for $899. Microsoft says these Microsoft Surface price points will remain in effect until August 29th but I suspect these discounts to be permanent. Buy announcing these price drops as temporary, I believe Microsoft is trying to spur sales during the Back to School buying season.

Microsoft Surface Discount: Is it Worth It?
Are these Microsoft Surface Discounts enough for us to recommend the Microsoft Surface Pro? Not really. It’s still way too expensive for what it can do. You are still better off buying a separate laptop and tablets. Yes, we all want to be able to have both in one device but the price, performance, and battery life just isn’t there yet.
Which Windows 8 Tablet do I Recommend?
As of this writing, I recommend that you wait for second generation Windows 8 Tablets to be released. I’m hoping that the next gen Windows Tablets will offer better price and performance points over the current offerings. Also, new Windows 8 Tablets should ship with Windows 8.1. While Windows 8 on a tablet is not nearly as easy to use as an iPad or Android Tablet, the update does address some of the issues with the first version of Windows 8.
If you really want to by an Intel Core processor based Windows Tablet today, I still only recommend the Acer Iconia W700. It’s the fastest and longest lasting Intel Core based tablet available. If you hunt around on eBay or Craigslist, you may find them at a nice discount. I’m actually looking to sell my Acer Iconia W700 in case you are interested. 🙂
